Jocelyn Mills is an educator with over 20 years of experience as a teacher, school leader and education policy maker. Jocelyn has worked in nearly every setting of education: rural, urban, suburban, and policy; as well as elementary, middle, and high school levels. She is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher and was part of the 2003 Toyota Teacher Exchange Program, allowing her to study educational systems in various cities in Japan. She completed the Educational Leadership Program at Western Kentucky University, earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from East Tennessee State University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Kentucky. Most recently, Jocelyn received her Certificate in Urban School Leadership from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Currently, Jocelyn serves as the Principal at the Barbara A. Sizemore Academy/Betty Shabazz International Charter School Network in Chicago, Illinois.
Passionate about learning, Jocelyn has spent her professional career studying the learning of children and adults, as well as researching the best practices in learning innovations. She understands how important lifelong learning is to the overall progress of human beings and has witnessed first-hand the adverse effects on children and adults when natural curiosity and love of learning is not encouraged and cultivated.
Jocelyn is a former college athlete, extensive world traveler, bilateral cochlear implant recipient, a mother of a soon-to-be college graduate, an avid reader and a history buff. Jocelyn loves storytelling and sharing her own journey to motivate others to “achieve impossible tasks.”
